Frequently representing love, health, and wisdom, Rubies were anciently thought to protect from evil, and is held in high regard to bring harmony and protection. As with other stones, rubies have, at times, been attributed with magical powers. One power it was thought to have was the capability to instantly boil water.

Color

Rubies are commonly a crimson red color. They are also found in brown, pink and purple hues.

Etymology

The word ruby is derived from the Latin word ruber meaning red.

World Application

A Ruby is the most valuable gemstone and its value increases based on its color and quality. Rubies are used in mechanical clockworks in places of high wear due to their hardness. Synthetic rubies have also been used in lasers.
